'Richard's Medical Disasters', 2026 is part of Richard Lewer's ongoing autobiographical series 'Richard's Disasters' which chronicles the artist's vulnerable, unfortunate, occasionally embarrassing, and sometimes funny life experiences. This self-portrait documents Lewer's real-life medical history and the experience of inhabiting his body. In creating such a highly personal and intimate work, Lewer is not looking for sympathy or pity but finds the process of placing his stories in the public domain both cathartic and empowering for him as an artist.
