Katherine Hattam

To the Beach 2023

A$1,500.00

The bright blue bands at each side of 'To the Beach' serve as a roll call of some of Katherine Hattam’s favourite beaches, ranging from the protected enclaves of Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay to the Mornington Peninsula, and from Sydney’s spectacular beaches and seaside pools to the wilds of South Australia’s Robe. Hattam’s list of Australian beaches is a form of visual shorthand encapsulating the personal experience that she had at each location, yet it speaks universally of the place of the beach in our lives, and of its role in the making of memories. This woodcut was printed from 71 individual pieces; 67 of these were inked in six colours for each print.
