Kylie Banyard

Kylie Banyard’s practice encompasses painting, photography, sculpture, and textiles. The labour of women’s creative work is a strong theme that runs throughout her imagery, alongside an abiding interest in art, art education and architecture. She creates her speculative, dreamlike works in regional Victoria, where she lives, works and lectures in art at Latrobe University. Kylie’s work has been included in significant exhibitions including, The National 2019: New Australian Art at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. Kylie is represented by Nicholas Thompson Gallery, Melbourne.

GETTING TO KNOW KYLIE BANYARD

FAVOURITE HISTORIC ARTIST: Sonia Delaunay, Ruth Asawa and Anni Albers (choosing one is too hard!)

FAVOURITE CONTEMPORARY ARTIST: Mamma Andersson, Dana Schutz, Judy Watson, Robin F. Williams (Arrghhh, too many!)

FAVOURITE ART MUSEUM: Heide Museum of Modern Art.

LIFE-CHANGING CAREER MOMENT: Exhibiting at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia as part of The National 2019: New Australian Art. AND walking the grounds of the original Black Mountain College campus in North Carolina.

STUDIO SOUNDTRACK: At the moment, it’s a mix of Dry Cleaning’s New Long Leg and Beyonce’s Renaissance. I also love podcasts; right now, I’m into Helen Molesworth hosting Dialogues: The David Zwirner Podcast.

PETS: Juno – a beautiful Red Kelpie girl!

FAVOURITE CITY: Sounds cliched but it just has to be NYC.

IF I WASN’T AN ARTIST… maybe I’d be a homesteader growing veges on a commune.

FAVOURITE COLOUR: Cobalt Blue.
